Most of the lunches will be made the night before- I don't want to be cooking during the day when I have all the children in the house (I'd way rather play than cook). On the meal planner link you can check out actual meals that we've eaten...although I'm not a great planner- I will try to post what we've eaten as we eat it.
I don't believe in making children eat something they don't like but I'm not a short order cook either...so a meal will be served and if a child isn't interested in trying it than that's all they get until next snack. However, if they try it and they don't like it we will try to find something to tide them over until snack.
I will try to get all for of the food groups in the snacks, 2 per snack.
For lunches I will do my best to get all 4 food groups every meal. Because I'm a vegetarian (although I regularly cook meat for my daughter) I do tend to pick more veggie based meals. Sometimes there might be tofu or beans in a dish and considered to be the protein. I recently purchased Deceptively Delicious and I use alot of the ideas from that to make my recipes. Veggie purees are incorporated into many of my recipes now.
By popular demand every Friday will be Breakfast Friday which will consist of whole wheat waffles, whole wheat pancakes, or whole wheat french toast (I also put flaxseed meal, protein powder and sweet potato puree in them) . Served with fresh fruit, maple syrup and natural peanut butter. The kids love them.
We don't buy sugary drinks, we drink only 100% fruit juices and we make popsicles from it. Mostly though, we drink good old fashioned water...best thing for them. You also have the choice of soy milk or homogenized cow's milk. I'm not going to say your child will eat perfect here- there will be treats, we will make cookies and cupcakes with the older children and everyone will get one- but the indulgences will be treats and usually homemade (at least then what goes in them can be controlled).
If you would like to bring a snack once in a while for your child that is fine- but please bring enough for everyone. Thanks :)
