At Great Expectations we believe every child should feel secure, understood and valued.

Children should be cared for in a clean, fun and supervised environment where they can be praised or corrected on the spot.

Manners should be taught through example.

Learning should come in natural ways, every situation whether it be a walk to the park or even spilled milk- it can be learned from. 

At my baby shower the mother of one of my friends told me a story about a noble prize winner who when asked who influenced him the most...responded that it was "his mother"...He went on to speak of how she always encouraged him to explore and learn and she did this by teaching him the mantra "there are no mistakes- only opportunities to learn."  He related a story of how when he was young, he spilled the jug of milk on the floor and instead of getting angry at the mess that he had made- they spent time playing in it.  They ran cars through it to see how it was different than water, they observed how it became sticky as it dried from the sugars in the milk.  And when they had spent a good 2 hours on the floor trying every experiment that they could- they then cleaned it up together. 

 I love this story.  I believe that we must take advantage of those opportunities to learn.
